For those who are unaware there is a tiny but magical town just a hour and a half north of Atlanta called Athens, Georgia. A melting pot of southern hospitality, college students, and artistic minds that come together to create a unique music, art, and intellectual environment. Sharing the great city is a mixture of locals and the students of the University of Georgia, although you could never call Athens a typical college town. A small business driven, alt-rock mecca, indie-centric downtown, creating a soundtrack that goes along with it. Artists like the B-52’s, Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, and R.E.M. are just a few of the thousands of artists who call Athens home. Along with the local legends, there are a number of different amazing music venues that allow musicians from all over to come through town, adding on to this unmatched music scene.

[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]So this past weekend, in this one of a kind city, was a gigantic music weekend. A free festival in the center of town, as well as great concerts going on in the venues made for a music bloggers dream. Unfortunately I got beat to the punch. Some dear friends of mine, Rachel and Sarah Klein write a blog called, Get By With a Little Help From Your Twins. I have always been told its better to quote than repeat, so instead of writing my own take on the weekend, I take a lot of pleasure in sending you to their blog. Written by Rachel, it gives a great wrap up of the weekend and just how unique and epic the Athens music scene can be. Check it out.
