Received my Boho Moonshine today. It was very well packed and in great condition after shipment. Of course i had to fire it up on a Fender Blues Jr. Only had a few minutes to explore it this afternoon, but i am well satisfied with the quality, finish and tone! It has a great clean sound and will handle a bit of grit nicely also. The neck plays very smoothly and easily. I plan on experimenting with different string gauges to see how that affects the playability as i tend to prefer heavier gauge strings. The guitar has a very interesting tonal quality that i will enjoy working into my music. Thanks Bohemian for a innovative product! -Dave Sadler
I can't wait to give it to my boyfriend for christmas! He's going to love it!
Can't really rate it yet. It's beautiful.
Looks great but as it is a present for my husband I can't say how it plays!
Simply wonderful. Great quality, unique design, clean tone, affordable.
The packing for shipment was great. Really protected the guitar. After an inspection and a quick tune, I took it for a spin. I was really quite surprised at how easilly it played, and how good it sounded. The finish is pretty good overall. I like the graphics. Not sure what I expected, but this thing is real nice. Especially given the low sub-$300 price! The Moonshine will make a nice addition to my guitar collection.
I saw the Bohemian guitar online and was intrigued - what is this strange 6 string animal? I must find out. After watching the video I chose the Moonshine axe. Good choice. It set up easily right out of the box and sounded cool plugged in. My rockabilly band will never be the same. The only drawback I detect are the odd rattles designed into the body. I think I can deal with those. For what I paid, this is a real cool guitar.
Haven't taken it out if the wrapping since it is a present. But happy with the shipping and service.
I'm a newbie in the realm of guitars. So far it has been everything that I needed and had a reliable sound that I really like.
Tone is warm and full and sounds great. So cool how it stands up and the body is light even with the electronics. And let's not forget how insane these guitar look. Can't wait to buy the bass when it's available.
cool guitar, cool sound, looks cool, change of pace...wanted that steel guitar sound, with or without a slide, to help offset my LP and Strat tones...this one does it for me..neck's nice and straight..something I was a little worried about at the beginning..stays in tune, too!! Gonna be a hit at all the winter outdoor campfire partys!! Love it!!
Just got my Moonshine guitar yesterday. I love the sounds it makes.
After tuning it up and adjusting intonation, it sounds really cool.
A couple of quirks that go along with any of these oil can body guitars:
. It is a bit awkward with the tin can body having about three times the depth as a traditional body, but not so bad that it is a problem.
. The other issue is the body is much lighter than a traditional body, so that makes it very neck heavy and not very well balanced.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that it will be my go-to every day guitar, I have my favorite Strat and favorite Les Paul for those duties. But, it does fill a niche sound that is very unique and desirable.
And finally, It does make a great impression aesthetically and sonically. The neck is better than you would expect on a
Nice sound, great neck, easy to play. A fun and very unique instrument.
Excellent service, craftsmanship, appearance ,comfortable neck, hot pickups...a creative joy!
I ordered my Moonshine after a year of seeing Boho's posts on FB. I just couldn't resist them. I chose this specific model because I'm a big Tele fan. I took the day I got to a local gig and the band loved it! Let alone the audience! It really just feels like playing an acoustic but with much better action. Very little player break in needed. A good neck and gig ready right out of the box. Looking forward to my next one. Now I just have to choose....
I was pleased with how quickly it arrived and after taking a few minutes to adjust it to my playing style, I'm ready to try it out at our next practice to see how it's unique sound fits in. I really bought it for the unique story it tells and impression it makes and I was not disappointed. I now have one of the coolest guitars ever. The only question now is what kind of strap to use for such a unique guitar to do it justice.
Love it...my husband was a very happy camper when he received his Moonshine Guitar!
I'm getting more disappointed... after light use, the screws that hold the metal piece on the back are falling off. The worse part is that they are not simply getting unscrewed, that are getting stripped. The screws are very small and the treads are unable to hold the pressure that the body places on this metal cover. Hoping things don't get any worse. :0(
After a few days with my new Bohemian Moonshine guitar, here's my preliminary review:
Shipping was amazingly fast. arrived in Phoenix in 2 days. Guitar & case survived transport just fine. I love the hardshell case. The color of the guitar is more gun metal gray than the steel blue I expected based on the pics on the Bohemian website. I would rate the quality of the guitar to be as expected for a $300 instrument.
The first issue I noticed was that both the volume & tone pots were loose enough to spin at the end of their travel when turned. I had to immediately open it up to correct that. Although the pots are mounted through wood, neither had a lock washer on it. I installed star washers from some other pots I had around & everything is solid now. That should be corrected in manufacturing.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the neck pickup is much louder than the bridge pickup. Due to the Tune-O-Matic type bridge setup, the bridge pickup needs to be much higher than the neck pickup & it just doesn't adjust up high enough to get close to the strings. Not only is it not nearly as loud as the neck pickup, it just sounds thin & weak. I ended up removing the pickup mounting springs so that I could get the pickup up as high as possible. Mounted without springs, it's a perfect height and much more useful.
The pickups are very microphonic in this oil can guitar. So, that either adds to the quirky character of this instrument or it will annoy you constantly. :) Switching pickups using the 3-way toggle results in a pretty good "clunk" in the guitar's audio output. The surfaces of the oil can can become percussion instruments, if you like. A little drive in your amp & you easily get unmusical feedback.
Setup was close. String height is OK. I might try to bring it down a touch. Neck relief was spot on. Frets could be polished. I needed to adjust intonation & couldn't get enough travel on the low E string to get where it needed to be with D'Addario 9's. I had to run the ...
6th string, 5th fret has a buzz. Poor setting. Otherwise I like it, the sound is what I was looking for.
Only had the guitar a week and I love it. I bought it to try and get back into playing and it worked. The hardest part about playing my Boho is taking it off the stand because it looks so good.
My son loves this guitar in his collection. Not only is it an interesting conversation piece, but sounds great too!
I've been playing for four years. Rock, Hard Rock (80s heyday) are my choice of musical vibrations to my ear. My family wanted to surprise me with a discovery my daughter had made. So, on January 11th my family ordered the Moonshine Guitar for me as a gift.
When I unwrapped my surprise I was impressed with the packaging. There was foam surrounding the entire guitar. A paper strip was around the strings. There was good support for the neck and foam at the very top and bottom of the box. Basically the whole guitar was protected by foam. The guitar was wrapped in a large plastic bag. After I removed the paper strip covering the strings I noticed what appeared to be some type of adhesive on the bottom four frets. I strummed an "E" cord and I could tell the guitar was well out of tune. I also noticed that with only a little pressure on the strings I could really change the pitch of the cord. I looked at the distance between the pickups and the strings. I was fairly certain there was more than there should be. I know this varies but when you look at the space under the strings from the top to the bottom of the neck and there is quite a difference, something is not quite right. After spending the money to have a professional Luthier set this up everything looked and sounded much better. I continued my inspection and for the most part I was pleased with the quality. There is a 1/4 inch spot located at the middle of the headstock where the clear coat had run.
I plugged the guitar into my Bugera V55INFINIUM Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier and was pleased. I fully expected this to sound well, like a tin can.
There is a few concerns; When you purchase ANY Bohemian guitar a hard case should be available if so desired (you did not have any in stock nor could this be ordered). The cardboard package is not going to protect this unit from damage. Concerning the cardboard case from what I have seen in a few of your web shots on various pages your guitar arrives in a box that is o...
I love the styling and the sound of the Boho Moonshine guitar that I recently received. Had to tweak it a bit to take out some kinks in the neck though around the 12th to 15th frets - but otherwise really happy with it. everyone should own - even just to have sitting in a corner of your living room and looking stylish and unusual !!
I had my doubts before I purchased but all the essential elements are here.
Stays In Tune
I've never seen a better guitar at this price and I've been playing 50 years. Not to mention the crowd appeal. People get all excited when I pull out my Bohemian Moonshine!
Great sounding guitar, customer support helped with a damaged product with no hassle.
It's a comfortable and light, sounds great for practice or jammin in your room/office. Would prefer if it was hand made.
If you are like me, you may have a couple 'special' guitars that you rarely play because you don't wanna bang them up. You probably also have a couple cheapies that you DO play.. but they sound like crap.
The Boho Moonshine fixes both of these scenarios.
It's inexpensive... you'll play it more.
You don't know anyone who has one... you'll play it more.
It plays and sounds much better than you think it would... you'll play it even more.
I only have 2 very minor issues with it.
1: It's neck heavy. You hafta kinda hold it up while playing.
2: The bridge has a slight buzz that I just can't seem to get rid of.
*Neither of these issues are stopping me from playing it. It sounds great clean or crunchy and the intonation is spot on.
Buy it for the novelty factor - play it because its a damn fine little guitar.
When all is said and done, I give the Boho Moonshine 5 stars!
Guitar arrived on time, well packed, everything works, badly needs setup and intonation
We just got the Boho Moonshine and we've very much enjoyed the sound quality it has, the ability to do some cool/unusual sounding beats on it, and most of all it grabs attention as we are busking!
This is a cool little guitar, a piece of functional art. I was pleased with the sound quality out of the box, but a good set of strings made it sound allot better. Tuners are on the cheep side and the fret wire is a little sharp on the ends and wears easily with string bending but the price and the overall cool factor kind of evens it out. The neck strap button could be placed better for those of us that have a beer gut. I think it would be great if a breathable cap was offered, one with holes in it and a gold screen to keep the vintage look but allow a simi hollow tone. Or maybe a fake pour spout 3-4 inches long that screws onto the cap hole and allows the can to breath. With a little work it's a cool little addition to anyone's collection. Just wish I would have gotten in on that $100 off sale!
Thanks, Dan Manly
Yes, I love it. They did a good job in manufacture, look forward to playing it.
While the shape of the body took some getting used to, the Boho Moonshine is overall excellent. On top of being a very clear sounding guitar, the neck feels just right in my hand and it's a very intersting conversation starter. I will definitely consider getting another Boho in the future.
Ordered from Amazon and shipper kind of dropped the ball. After not hearing any news on order after a week notified CEO Adam Lee and he got things back on track(Great customer communication). Got the guitar promptly after that and love it.I sold guitars for 15 years at Sam Ash and have the usual strats and teles but this has a vibe and mojo all it's own.Factory set up was good and sound unique. Just ordered the hard case and started saving for the P90 equipped SurfWax model.Good stuff at a nice price!
